The ALI 2017 Fellows are a select group of highly regarded individuals identified by Harvard University from across the world. Globally acknowledged as influencers, they work together to find sustainable solutions for some of the issues facing the world in relation to education, research, women and youth empowerment etc. The Fellows also act as investment advocates for most parts of the world.
For the 2019 Reunion, Harvard ALI chose South Africa as their destination and Afri-Centric was assigned to put together a comprehensive reunion programme. We took time interpreting the brief before curating a balanced programme which included visits to local universities and sustainability sites, dialogues and seminars as well as dinner events and travel experiences within South Africa.
The tour started in Johannesburg where selected site visits were conducted by highly esteemed South African professionals including the Minister of Tourism, Dr Derick Hanekom and business luminaries such as Dr Precious Motsepe, Advocate Thuli Madonsela etc. From there we moved onto the welcoming unspoilt landscapes and towns of the Eastern Cape before embarking on the Garden Route, a fairyland of giant trees, ferns and birdlife and a coastline dotted with lakes, mountains and golden beaches. The final leg of the tour took place in magical Cape Town where we pulled out every stop to ensure that the reunion offered the Fellow's an enriching travel experience before closing with an incredible dinner in the picturesque, internationally lauded wine-producing university town of Stellenbosch in the Cape Winelands.
By matching the group's needs to local resources, we were able to give the Fellows an in-depth understanding of South African Issues and enabled them to identify areas where they could collaborate with government and local services to create sustainable impact. The tour also gave our visitors a glimpse of South Africa‘s diverse tourism offerings.
